Do you have a favourite flowering cherry tree? I am looking for a “twin” (similar height and form) for my Prunus Autumnalis . . . pale pink or white blossom preferred. Thanks!

Thanks Paul, well it’s a little like Prunus cerasifera which I already have, so I’m not sure.

Hi, Prunus x subhirtella 'autumnalis roseum' is very similar to P x subhirta 'autumnalis, except that it has pink flowers, instead of the 'tinged pink' white flowers, Derek.

Thanks Derek, I didn’t know that. But I guess that means they will be flowering at the same time, so it might be better for my “twin” to be Spring flowering 🙂.

Use this link to see lots of alternatives with a selection of foliage and flower colours as well as some fruiting varieties. If anything takes your fancy then you can ask if anyone on Goy has experience of growing your choice before committing to a considerable spend. http://www.perryhillnurseries.co.uk/catalogue/trees/Prunus/

Sheila, whilst I'm not a fan of Japanese flowering cherries, I do have to say the the Mount Fuji Cherry - Prunus Shirotae is absolutely stunning. My local garden centre has one on show and it is a wonderful selling point for them when it's in flower.

Thanks so much Jimmy . . . I think I've heard of that one, but will now Google it and have a look :)

Jimmy - it's stunning! So beautiful, I can't resist, so that's the one I'm going for - autumn colouring for the leaves too, perfect. THANK YOU :))

we ie the village has a mature Prunus Shirotae on the corner of our street and in spring it is stunning and many of the brides who get married in the medieval church opposite have their photos done under it. If they are lucky and the petals are starting to fall it is the most amazing confetti.
as you say it also has amazing autumn colour.
a lovely choice.

Prunus Shirotae is a stunning selection. Looks like a big white cloud.

Have you checked out the ultimate Height and Spread. It seems to be very wide at 10 - 12m.

Yes Scotsgran, it can get very wide, but I think my front garden can cope - thanks for the warning!

You are welcome. OH always says measure twice and cut once when he is making anything and it works.

Hi Sheila! I have the purple leaf sand cherry, which puts out very sweet smelling, pale pink blossoms in the Spring, following my mini black cherries in late summer/fall that the birds go for. Not sure if this is what you are looking for
