The tree came down so quickly! Can I use sawdust from my felled maple tree as a mulch on my borders? Thank you.

Suppose I could mix it with my compost from my compost heap. Also got some leaf mulch.

Hi, yes just mix it all together, all good stuff, Derek.

i'd let it 'rot' down for about 3-6 months or mix with the compost bin. fresh bark/sawdust depletes nitrogen from the soil as it starts to decompose.

Hi Sbg, yes I agree, but there doesn't seem to be a great lot there, and spread out as a mulch, wont make much difference to the nitrogen levels, especially when it's mixed with garden compost and leaf mould, Derek.

Derek - could I mix it in into my compost heap?

Hi, yes you can do that, but do mix it in, not just put it in 1 place, helps it to decompose faster, Derek.

Ok, thanks Derek. Think I will do that. 👍🏻

Hi, yes you can, but you should mix it with well rotted garden compost first, but this isn't essential, Derek.
