I often start mine off in pots in the greenhouse when the corms become for sale in the garden centres. I then plant them in the soil 6-10" deep in May. I find they come back most years then.

Hi, if they're planted in the greenhouse border, then spring next year, Gladiolus don't do very well in a greenhouse, except for the winter flowering South African species, it's best to plant them directly where they're going to flower in spring this year{not the metreological spring though, the proper spring} about 4"deep, when the stems get to about half their eventual height, start feeding them every ten to fourteen days, until about 3 weeks after the stems have turned colour, then lift them, save the new corms, and discard the original, store the new corms somewhere dry and frost free, Derek.
