Help with strawberry plants please. I ordered these to plant in pots but they’ve come without instructions. Do they go straight into their permanent pots or do they need potting on first. Also the compost I’ve ordered hasn’t come yet. Can I use my garden compost for the pots ? Any other advice about growing them in pots much appreciated They are Elan

they are big enough to go into there permanent pots but they will need hardening off if you plan to grow them out doors. So either pot into a temporary pot and put them outside during the day and bring them in at night. This 'hokey-kokey' is easier with small pots rather than your large permanent pot.

If you can't do that straight away try to prevent the roots drying out, even if you just spray them with water and put plastic over them

These will be quite a challenge to keep in pots. If you can't find a place in the garden for them, I would put them into their permanent pots. They will produce runners with plantlettes attached. The plantlettes need to be potted up too because they will produce next year's strawberries which will also produce runners for the following year - see where I'm going?
