I have a lysimachia candela in flower, and in its tub that I bought it in. Must I plant it in the soil, or can I bed it in a large stone tub? the soil isnt too good here 200 yds from the sea, and the winter winds are intolerable. If it must be planted out in the soil, shall I leave it till next Spring?

Isn't it herbaceous anyway? I have just planted two of these lovely plants, and expect them to disappear for the winter.

If your soil is poor then keep it in a pot but I think that family like moist conditions, besides you would have to support it well in a pot. Could you not enrich your soil and keep it moist?
