Saw this on Gardener's World last night. Can anyone tell me what it is and more to the point, is it easy to grow?

Sorry Bathgate, but not an Auricula. This is what is known as a Gold Lace Primula. Very easy to grow in moist soil in light shade.

Yes gold lace primula, a variety of Primula elatior. Victoria bought one when she was 10 and it is still growing well in a semi shady border.
easy to grow and well worth a place in the garden.

While ordinary primulas self-sow in my garden, the Gold Lace ones don't last very long for me. They must not be allowed to dry out, and need feeding every year (I have been told)

I would really like some of these. I’ve searched on the internet but cannot find this particular variety. Please could someone point me in the right direction? Thank you.

They are for sale at: https://www.barnhaven.com/primroses/gold-laced-polyanthus/
The Nursery is in France, but I have ordered plants from them in the past and been pleased with their service, although they are not taking plant orders just now
