These in my opinion are best left to their natural graceful habit they respond very well to hard pruning, I have pruned these many times over the years, but always sim pathetically so has not to spoil its natural shape, if it’s a largish small tree then you may take some of the lower branches off, and take some of the height and sides down so it’s not too top heavy, I am not too sure weather making it a standard would look right.
