I planted an Acer Palmatum 'Taylor' in acid soil in a large container and it was doing well and then I planted some Impatiens around it and it started to die. Also I put some Impatiens around some patio roses and they have been very poor. Is there anything in the Impatiens that can cause problems?

No, nothing to do with the Impatiens - might be more to do with when you planted them, you disturbed or broke roots on the existing plants, and as they grew, they took most of the nutrients and water available, leaving the original plants short of both.
