My yellow zucchini fruit are young,not big, but are a dark yellow (almost orange) and very hard to cut into. What is going wrong?

Lack of water, nutrients, or root space can cause premature ripeness in squash, and even zukes will get tough skins when they are overripe. How are they being taken care of, Jsilver?

Are you certain that they are Zucchini? Perhaps you have been sold mis-named seeds and these are actually Squash?
