Is a bag of sharp sand from a builders merchant as good as horticultural sharp sand from a garden centre(twice the price)? Thanks

Agree - needs to be washed sand,whatever type it is.

If it is washed river sand then yes. I use it all the time. Check that there are no bits of broken sea shells in it. If there are then don't use it. Really want to see if it is sea bed sand then taste it!
