Now that the flower has died back in it's place looks like a seed pod...Could it be? Do I leave it on the plant until it dries out? Cut it off so it doesn't take away nutrients from the mother plant? Can anyone help me with this I've never seen this happen.

On plant Hibiscus moscheutos

it is up to you about removing the pod. If you want the challenge of growing the seed , leave it on. if you are not then cut it off. it will be happy no matter what.
