I bought three Urginea maritima bulbs from Farmer Gracey last autumn. I followed all the instructions, but nothing has happened to them. There are no shoots as yet. When should I expect to see some growth, please?

These have the same growth cycle as Amaryllis belladonna and should have at least put up some leaves. I saw where Farmer Gracey says to leave the top 3cm bare, but try setting the bulbs on the soil and just pushing them in slightly. Also, very little water during the summer, but lots of sun. As long as the bulbs remain firm, they may surprise you in the early fall with a flower spike. I grow a lot of bulbs like these, and they need that dry summer rest, but resent disturbance.

Thanks for the help.

I find these difficult. I think they are originally from the Mediterranean so like dry free draining soil. I wouldn't expect to see anything before May as they flower late summer.
