First, Thanks for your replies, The apple tree in question last year bore no fruit and leaves seemed fairly dry I am open to suggestions as regards feed,

Hi,
the RHS suggests a baalnced feed such as Fish blood and bone or similar. Growmore granules are equally good. You say its next to the house wall, that could be the problem as it is in what is called the rain shadow. So make sure you give it plenty of water during dry spells and when there are only light showers.
