Hi I just got a delivery of these potatoes and was wondering what to do with them I am going to plant them in bags so my question is have they chitted? Are they the right way up? the variety is Charlotte

Chitting is not that important. The way up is not important either. The stems will grow towards the light no matter which way up you plant them.
Never bothered chittting Charlottes and we had really good crops from them.

They have started I'd wait until the pale 'sprouts are about 1 " long them plant them.

Lovely variety of New Potato's.I used to grow them in big pots,and they were good croppers. I still buy this variety ..good luck :o)

You can cut them in pieces making sure each piece has at least 1 eye. Let the pieces scab over for a day or 2 before planting. This will double or triple your yeild.

One of the problems I always found with chitted potatoes is that it is too easy to knock off the sprouts when planting them so we never bothered.

The potato farmers around here never bother with chitting. In fact, the only reason that I can think of to chit is to see if the spuds you got from the grocer have been treated to prevent sprouting.
