Oh dear I have just cut back my dogwood bushes, pretty hard. They are only a year or two old and I know it is the wrong time to prune. Don't know what I was thinking is there anything I can do, especially as it is likely to be a severe winter (in the highlands of scotland!) so I do not lose them to the frost! Help!

You could mulch over the crowns of the plants with a thick layer of compost, and add a couple of layers of fleece, too. Peg this down. That should give them some protection, I'd have thought. Fingers crossed!

Thank you, yes I thought about covering them with a big winter scarf and hat! I shall give it a try.

It's a pity you wont be able to see the colourful stems through the winter either.

How do I say thanks?
