please can you tell me the best time to prune my climing roses

Don't prune them very hard then if they are the older spring-blooming types--those need to be pruned just after bloom in summer. Even the newer everblooming kinds should be left with a fairly tall skeleton once early spring pruning is done.

Spring, really around February/March. If you have very long growths, you can shorten those now to prevent wind rock during the winter.
