Small evergreens (garden centres usually have a range of these at this time of year), evergreen grasses, ivies, pansies, primulas/polyanthus and any other little thing that stays evergreen, such as Silene uniflora, ophiopogon nigrescens.

I have Just planted two baskets up today with small conifer in the centre with Cyclamen and violas also ivy to hang over edge. It looks nice, will take a photo so you can see what you think, although it should look better when they start growing and it fills out a bit more.
