Thank you I think it's some sort of weed. Have done this in the past pulling things out thinking they were weeds then come Spring I'm looking for a certain plant I put in ...................Then realize AH it was that weed I took out and it wasn't. I forget will have to start a log. Thanks one and all

I'm not sure exactly what it is but i think I've seen it growing wild on the banks of streams

if so anchor that could be butterburs.
Cranb, I do that too, or rather I've done it in reverse too often - ooh that looks pretty, let's give it a chance... and before I know it, it's invaded the garden. In the past notably with geum rivale and vetch. What was I thinking of?!

Yes Cranberry do as its Coltsfoot and Butterburs a close relative to it so Weeding right.Has the strange habit of flowering before producing leaf growth .. you may have noticed yellow dandelion like flowers a few weeks back ?
Certainly a weed - grows prolifically here along streams and river banks.

I agree, it is Coltsfoot though it flowers before the leaves in March/April on scaly flower stems.
