my mature cordy seemed to die due to excess rain so i cut it down to 6in above ground it has wonderful shoots growing from base of the stem how do I take thses off as cuttings?

Your cordyline would have been damaged from last winter rather than excessive rain. The new shoots at the bottom are coming off the original roots of the plant - leave some to grow on to make a multi stemmed cordyline, but if you want to try to pot some separately, you need to make sure you get a good piece of root with each one by cutting downwards with a pruning knife and then potting up. Have a dig around in the soil first so you can see if its possible to remove one or two with roots, without damaging the entire thing.
