Have only just realised.- I’ve had a wonderful thornless blackberry bush which has performed every year, but I’ve never fertilised it. Please - what does it need ?

Blackberries are related to roses. So give it rose food. They'll do well. Alfalfa pellets (the kind you feed to horses) or fish emulsion would work well too.

Never occurred to me to feed a blackberry! Rose food comprises equal amounts of nitrogen, phosphate and potash which is the same as tomato fertilizer - you probably have one or both of these. (general fertilizers tend to have more nitrogen to encourage strong green growth)

Thanks people, have just bought tomato fertiliser. Will rectify the problem tomorrow. Cheers.

You might try using it on your gooseberry as well if you haven't got any potash. Do that in February when you prune it..
