my bleeding heart has gone brown the rest was fine but today i noticed the bottom of a stem has snapped and is also going brown?? will it all die or can i save it at all

I agree with Eileen. This is perfectly normal bleeding hearts go dormant during the hot summer months. It's sleepy time just leave them alone and they will come back bigger and stronger next spring

at this time of year this is normal. the root stock underneath will be fine. Some of mine get snapped off when cats/squirrels rummage around.
