Poppy Paeony Purple Passion

Came across these seeds in the garden centre this morning and could not resist them. Although the guidance on the packet suggests sowing directly into the ground, I have sown some into a tray to start with.

Just wondering if these seedlings can be pricked out without too much damage? I think that poppies are a tap root, so I was wondering if they really should be planted where they are to be grown.

Depends on how deep your pots are.
Where I have seeds for plants like this I usually sow them in pairs in pots then less damage when planting out. Lupins i tend to plant in loo roll innards.

Also depends on how gentle you are in pricking out.

Well, I sowed them in a seed tray initially. However, I can sow them in 5cm pots in small groups and thin them down to a pair if that would work.

I had intended on pricking them out from the tray to 5cm pots then increase the size until ready for the ground.

On the lupins, I have had some seeds outdoors germinating in this heat. Every time they germinate, something eats them. Slugs I assume. They are in a tray with grit on the surface. I thought the grit would deter the slugs. I just cannot control slugs now at all.

How do I say thanks?
