We have a 10 year old Magnolia Soulangiana tree which needs to be reduced in size....is this the best time to do this or can it be left until the Autumn?

I would prune it in midwinter, cutting the longest branches back to just above side branches, or thinning them out entirely, while leaving as many undisturbed twig tips as possible. The flower buds form on the very tips of each twig in late summer.
