i have some lovely fuchsias this year, do i need to take cuttings to keep them or do i keep the whole plant somewhere frost free?

It's a little bit late to take cuttings now - but you could try.
Yes - keep the whole plant/s frost-free and dryish until spring - you can cut them back, too. I wrap the rootballs in damp newspaper and pack them together in a cardboard box in my cool greenhouse - off the slabs, so they're insulated from the cold floor.

If they're non-hardy ones, you need to over-winter them in a frost-free place, then repot them in the spring. They should then flower again.
