Need a clearer picture of what you mean rubbertoes. Are you saying you have shoots coming off the trunk? If so, you can just cut them off, but you won't be able to grow them on, tho I'd leave in place to make a more interesting plant. If you have new growth at the base, and can get some good root with the plantlets, then you can pot those on. But if your plant was unwell after the winter, did you have to remove any of the main stem because it was rotting or splitting? And how is the topgrowth at the top of the stem? It may not be wise to remove side growths from the trunk because that's where the plant is healthy.
