I usually mix it 50:50 with a soil based one to make it less appealing to vine weevil and to give some weight to the pots. If they are to have long term planting I usually add slow release fertilizer.

I've found on it's own it's not much good, but this may reflect more on the manufacturer as so far I've only used the cheapo supermarket own type, maybe more expensive branded product would be better suited but from what i've read in the garden mags it seems peat free does need more work from suppliers on getting a reliable product & users in getting used to it
