I have had to cover my sweet pea plants with fleece because I noticed the sparrows were about to have a feast. How long do I have to keep them covered?

The sparrows will be looking for insects in the flowers. I havent been aware that they eat the flowers. I know bluetits do nip runner bean flowers but have always thought it is to do with insects.
As to how long I dont know the answer to that sorry
