Can Fatsia japonica tolerate clay soil that can become quite dry in summer? I would like to grow one in a shady corner of my garden.

Lol that's not the answer Blue, it's an odd spot and I would like something evergreen. You're not a Fatsia fan then :-))

Fatsia will do fine in clay soil, but like any other plant, in extended dry periods during summer (2 months, no rain) it may need a bit of watering, and in particular during its first year or two.
