Little houses to house bugs over winter...
Find somewhere that the wee houses will not be disturbed and that is not in direct sunlight.

have a peek at my bug hotel in my photo album page 7. My grandson's project really. It is east facing so gets shade from 12pm onwards. Bug habitats can be placed anywhere you like really. Much the same as bird box's I would say. Excellent that you are thinking of helping out our smaller garden helpers.

Tug - they're an open ended box-frame, and you cut canes and fill up the box so that 'bugs' can hide in them safely.

Do you mean ladybugs?

No any 'bugs' Tugb., earwigs for example - just somewhere for them to hibernate.

I have to admit, I have loved bugs ever since I was small. I was always diging around in my grandparents garden. Great to hear someone would like to put bug houses up.

Hmmph! So far as I'm concerned, earwigs, roaches, crickets, etc. can fend for themselves--they've been doing a bang-up job for hundreds of millions of years!!

Ah, but the ones that are helpful around the garden need somewhere to hide during the winter before they get busy on the aphids (or pollinating) in the spring! :-))) There 'is' method in our madness, Tug!

I'm happy to cater to the beneficials, Spritz, but I've lost too many seedlings to earwigs over the years to find them a hostel! ; )

They eat my dahlias, so I'm not too keen on them, either. I haven't got a 'bug-house' anyway!

If you have a rural garden or a large garden you don't need to put out 'bug houses' but if you have a small urban or suburban garden then a 'bug house' makes a lot of sense.

Welcome, Learnardjohn!
I'll have to admit to being a little lost--what are bughouses, and what do they do?
