Suckers: I have a three year old single stemmed ornamental crab that has thrown up several suckers from below the graft. Is it best to cut them of pull them off please?

Or find the point of origin and carefully cut it away from the root leaving no little bits behind.

Thank you. Hope I can do it without ripping too much off...I can see the point of origin because the graft is above the ground. So one vote for pull and one for cut....

pull/tear them off as hopefully that will remove the growth point on the root stock.
