I think that Tea derives from Camelia and India produces excellent tea so yes I'd give it a go.

As long as the summer temps don't go over 40 deg. C, there shouldn't be any problem, though shade after 11:00 am may be necessary. They grow here in the North American subtropical desert, but they suffer in our 46+ deg summers.

Go for the Camellia sasanqua types.

Yep, they do take heat better.
