Is it too late to set cosmos seeds in the green house, or would I be better waiting till spring. ?

I'd say it is too late. It would be winter before they're ready to flower! I'd leave it to spring

I have a huge display of them every year and have never sown their seeds in a long time. They self seed at the back end of the year into the garden soil and I leave them there and by late spring are very evident that they will be back as good, if not better, than last year. A beautiful flower and many colours.

So....Cosmos grows successfully sown right into the ground in spring? Or do you have to have a greenhouse to start them off? Novice again! lol

They do self seed freely outdoors but I usually start them in a seed tray on a windowsill indoors in spring and pot them on into 7cm pots and harden them up outdoors. I plant them in the ground when they're 6-8 inches tall

Hi there Tulsalady26
Reading all the comments on Cosmos flowers, here in South Africa they grow wild of course, in profusion of various shades of pink, purple, lilac & white.
Anyone in the know, living in South Africa knows winter is knocking on the door when the first cosmos blooms show their beautiful faces,
I shall take some snaps when they are in full bloom and post a couple on this page (hopefully if I can manage).
They are truly a beautiful sight, and can be seen for miles across the countryside.
One or two young brides have even used the humble cosmos flower as her wedding flower, even in her bouquet, and very beautiful too.
I'm very new to GOY, but hope to make some friends soon. Look forward to hearing from you soon.
Take care, God bless and keep you xox
