Can anyone recommend favourite rhubarb varieties, and any cultivation tips to get the best from them? I am thinking of ordering some crowns.

I have found the only one that works for me at my altitude is Timperley early. I now have 5 healthy crowns from splitting an original huge one about 6 years ago. I originally tried other types, but they either didn't survive or were very poor in growth.
I mulch the crowns every autumn with the old compost from the season polytunnel veg. and some garden manure. They are thriving beautifully.
I have the in a bed with some Aquilegia and a rose. The 3 are beneficial to each other, and incidentally going sideways. My Aquilegias are doing some wonderful seedlings. From purple hybrids, I have semi doubles, fully doubles and pom poms, all purple.
