My husband has just cleared an area next to a north facing wall. We now want to plant one or two flowering shrubs in this spot.
Do you have any suggestions for planting please? We already have mahonia, philadelphus, viburnum, ‘bridal wreath’ and a ginkgo in the same bed.

Agree with Meadowland, a couple of Chaenomeles would do well in that situation. Can be left as a bush or trained to be a fan. Early flowering and interesting fruit would be my choice also.

If we have room a weigela would be my choice too. We do have a chaenomeles against the same wall further along so perhaps another would be a good idea too?

Skimmia, Sarcoccoa and Camellia would probably do well.
