Hi, Years ago my Grandson planted an apple seed. The pics show what has grown. Am I right in thinking this is from the seed & is in fact an apple tree ? Thank you

No it looks more like a birch.
Nice tree though.

Apple leaves are totally different in shape.

Seaburngirl, thank you. My goodness I’ve spent the last 15(ish) years telling my Grandson how good his Apple pip has grown lol whoops!

Never mind Jay! It’s a lovely tree! Bay trees support about 200 different species of birds and insects etc. and they are much prettier than apple trees too!

Thank you Cottagekare for your reply. I was thinking of planting it in the garden but I think I’ll wait to see how it grows. I’m glad it’s good for wildlife tho

Just remember that Birch trees get BIG eventually.

Owdboggy, thank you , it’ll be staying in the pot. I still don’t understand how I’ve ended up with a Birch lol

The same way as I get lots of Beech trees in seed pots.

Owdboggy thank you. I didn’t think of that

If the birch stays in the pot, it won’t get much bigger. I have a copper beech in a pot about this size and it has remained “dwarf” at less than 3 ft for many years. Birches take kindly to a bit of pruning too.

But not once the sap begins to rise as they can bleed to death.
