It needs full sun, Japon. I made the mistake of planting mine in part-shade, and it just doesn't colour up.

Thanks Spritzhenry for the speedy reply, Iv had conflicting advice about full sun or part shade. I have 2 of them and i must admit the one that gets more sun is going a nice orange/red colour.

Think i will have to move the other one.......Cheers.

They will grow very happily in shade, even quite deep shade, but they won't colour successfully like that.

That's exactly what mine does - just sits there the same colour - I'd have liked the autumn hues. My own fault, I'm afraid.
