WHAT CAN YOU RECOMEND TO GET RID OF AN AGRESSIVE GROWING IVY IN MY GARDEN

How about getting rid of an aggressive ivy covering about 100 sq metres? Seriously Ivy does not regenerate from the roots in the way that say, Dandelions or Bindweed does. So as long as you remove any STEM from the roots it will die off. The difficulty is making sure that you remove all the stems. I am getting rid of my ivy (cannot use weedkiller, the area is stuffed full of Snowdrops which are already beginning to grow) by digging off the top 4 inches of soil and with it hopefully any Ivy stems. A lot of the root comes out with it which is ok, but a lot is left behind. This method has worked for me before. This lot is actually seed which has germinated and grown and been left. Have fun!

If it is growing over the ground I just keep pulling it up and raking off any regrowth. If climbing trees, fences or walls, treat as Hoya105 says.

If you do go down the weedkiller route, then add a little washing up liquid to the water, it makes the weedkiller stick to the ivy leaves.

cut it off at the base, then in the spring when there is a good few feet of fresh growth - spray it with a herbicide - ensure you get under the leaves as well. You may have to repeat this to get rid of it completely!
