Another Pineapple Broom Problem
Mine has successfully survived last winter but it is very top heavy in grown and lop sided, about 6 ft tall, its constantly trying to reach the westerly sun as there are a lot of large trees north .
Can I prune heavily now and let it grow from the base and middle, or wait until spring, its still putting on a lot of leaf.

These plants do not appreciate being heavily pruned at any time, so not possible to hard prune. They will tolerate a light clipping after flowering, but that's about it. Unfortunately, it does require full sun.

I take out a couple of the long shoots every year if they are growing the wrong way etc. It will resprout from the base. Just don't cut more than a third of the shoots off. It flowers on wood that is at least 2 years old so spread the pruning over a few years to maintain flower production.

How do I say thanks?
