I have a 'Black Lace' Elder which is approx 3 years old and has given fantastic pink blooms followed by masses of fruits. It's getting a big 'leggy' and I was wondering when (if at all) I could prune it, and how.

Elder can be pruned over winter if you need to do this. However, it will mean that you will be cutting off the branches that will flower next year. The best option may be to remove a third of the shoots right to their base every year. This will encourage new shoots and you'll still get flowers from the ones that were left unpruned.
