Is it too late to put bulbs in ? What can I try around cherry trees in a clay soil I have plenty of snowdrops. The other problem I have is that we get a deer that comes to visit for a few weeks at a time and likes tulips. Any suggestions welcomed.

I've found overlooked tulip bulbs and popped them into the ground far later then this time of the year and they have bloomed well. I still have to plant all mine but most will be in pots. The second time around ones can take their chances in the ground.

There is a product called 'Grazers' available that we've had success with at our local garden centre. It comes as a liquid that you mix up to the right strength and spray on the plants you want protected. Might be worth a try. Phil J

So long as your soil isn't too cold you can still plant bulbs but, if you get deer visiting they will happily eat the flowers of crocus and the like.
Try planting crocus, muscari, chionodoxa, winter aconite and other small bulbs and corms.
