Hi!
has anyone collected seed from Heleniums? Is the 'seed' the small 'shuttlecock' things that are clustered together in the cone seedhead?
Thanks for all/any replies.

Yes it is Taraven, I read the seeds require light to germinate so press lightly onto soil and do not cover, but I have never collected the seed from mine. You can divide the plant in the Spring about every 3-4 years or you can take cuttings then also.

I've collected the seed from my 'Autumnul Sunshine Hybrids' and 'Autumn Lollipop' Taraven, and they do germinate well, even have self sown seedlings popping up in spring so keep your eye open.

Thank you so much for replying to my question Drc726. I'll make a note that they need light to germinate.
I've never grown Heleniums before and now I'm on a quest to find as many different ones as I can. They're so pretty.
Thanks again :)

ooops, Simbad, sorry I didn't see your reply until a moment ago.
Mine is an early flowerer so my next 'quest' will be to find Autumn flowering ones.
What colour is 'Autumn Lollipop' it's name conjures up all kinds of images. I must go Google it, LOL

Thanks!!
