Am I right in thinking that this plant is a Billbergia nutans? It is in flower right now, and doesn't seem to mind full sun.

I was a little uncertain because everything I saw said it bloomed in the summer, and liked bright but not direct sunlight. Thanks.

I've never seen it in the flesh, but it certainly matches with the pics I've seen - it probably has its main flowering in the summer, I mean, polyanthus are said to flower in the Spring, and they do - but you also get some in autumn.

My mum's always flowers about now, so I don't know if it's a different variety, but it seems consistent. Worthy

Your climate is probably coastal enought to allow them to get full sun, Wylie. Around here, they have to have shade, but are apt to bloom anytime from February to November.

I was lucky to get these photos. 2 days later, one of our typical winter storms passed by and tore the flowers to shreds (60mph winds will do that). But our weather is very similar to the S.F. Bay area where I grew up.

That certainly seems to be it.
