Nothing ventured nothing gained, put plenty of cuttings in I am sure at least one will root. But do as Spritz says and watch out for a frost.

Hallo! I am assuming that you mean a Lavatera shrub, like 'Barnsley'. My RHS book tells me that softwood cuttings need to be taken in early summer. You could always try to root the cuttings when you prune it - I shall be giving mine a half-prune as soon as it finishes flowering - so soon. There's nothing to lose by trying, is there?
