how tough are hellebores and hostas?
so far they have had minus 12 degrees, 7" of snow, paving slabs put on top of them and now they have a ladder and builders boots ~ size 11??
will they ever survive?
im not sure how much of the plants are above ground ~ not very much, but i darent go out there to find out!!!!?

I have buds on one of my hellebores in our little wood Stickitoffee and we had -17 one morning so sure they'll be fine.

thats promising ~ thank you! im hoping the builder will not still be there until february bulbaholic! they are very nice and very good ~ but i hope it will be done soon!

tougher than old boots !
mine have been driven over, parked on, covered in rubble and survived -16 last winter and did really well this year. hellibores seem to enjoy the cool spell.

You need to clear the builders as soon as possible
I have Hellebores showing buds and i would only be 2 weeks ahead of you. at most

ive just found 3 buds on my yellow hellebore ~ im delighted! will put a photo on later.
builders will finish soon ~ they are making a lovely room so i can sit and look at the garden ~ should be really nice! i sat in it this afternoon!!! ~ no windows and the concrete isnt finished on the floor!

mine is done now, furniture delivered to day. I am sure i will soon forget the loss of the bed that was there.

there were some in the 3 blogs I did but non yet of the furniture. Will have to sort that soon.
Did get out today and cleared the rubble ,10 builders bags worth. the a 'roantic trip' with oh to the local tip. good job as the snowdrops are pushing their way through.

Plants don't come much tougher, Sticki! The temperature is no problem and provided that the slabs and the builder are removed before growth starts properly they will not know anything has happened.
