The birds have left my garden..any ideas why. I have put down fresh nibbles, there are no cats, even Cyril the squirrel has taken a hike.

You may have a peregrine falcon around. I am surprised to hear they have deserted you, it is probably just due to the availability of other food like berries etc. Water is just as important to the birds as food.Do you keep their water ice free.

Some times the birds go back to the woods but come to gardens when it very cold, Half all the birds in my garden have gone away.

There's a possibility that neighbours along the road are offering food which is even more interesting to birds and squirrels ...

The weather's turned mild, that's all. Plus, they've got other things on their minds, too, like sex, so you combine that with increased availability of food in the fields and woods, and the numbers in gardens will naturally drop. They don't want us watching! Worthy

The birds are very fickle and someone may have more tempting snacks set out. The other morning there were 8 different birds visible in about 5 minutes. A bunch of Long tailed tits trawled through and a little trotty bird ran up the path....not identified. Today none to be seen. Starlings sometimes seem to join a big flock, or there may be just one or two come to dine. Havn't seen our Mistle thrushes today, so far either, and the last lot of grapes untouched. After 2 months they have spurned my offerings. It is one of the hidden joys of a severe winter to entertain such guests for a while.

We haven't lost all of our bird visitors (especially the starlings) but they are eating far less of the food we put out since the weather went milder (except the starlings). Could that be it?
