Plants for porch pots

I have 2 pots either side of my front door. They are outside but under the cover of the porch overhang, so plants have to be watered. The front is south facing, so when it's sunny, the pots are in it all day long. I seem not to be having any joy with my plants. Have tried mini bays trees & more recently hebes. Can you suggest the appropriate plants? Not that it matters but the pots are grey as is the front door !

How about Pieris japonica ''Little Heath'? Evergreen, variegated leaves, red leaves in spring and white flowers. Slow-growing. You'd have to replace the compost with ericaceous as they prefer acid soil. Or Choisya 'Aztec Pearl' with its long season of white flowers and romatic evergreen leaves?
