Could someone give me some advice please regarding my cordyline. I live in staffordshire. My cordy is approx 4ft tall, with a large growth of leaves on one side and 2 smaller ones the other side that had a flower stem. I wrapped the leaves as advised on the site with fleece etc from november. But a couple of weeks ago i noticed the heavier side was leaning quite bad so i uncovered the leaves when the temps had risen. The heavier side appears to have begun to come away from the trunk, and if it grows anymore it will snap off and all over some of the leaves look damp, lifeless and with black speckles. The plant is very sentimental as my mom passed away exactly a year ago and she gave me the cordy from her garden 2 yrs ago when it was just getting established. Im worried about what to do as im a novice in the garden and at the moment i keep avoiding going out to check it. Advice much apprec.

Check the trunk or stem, all the way down to the ground, for soggy, or rotten areas. The cold this winter will have been too much for many Cordylines, fleeced or not. If you find rotting, you will need to cut the plant down beneath that point. If no rotting, you may still need to remove the growth which has come away from the trunk. With any luck, your plant will shoot again from below ground if you leave it in situ, or from the trunk, but that you won't know until later in the year.
