I have a Ceanothis (Zanzibar) that is well over 8 feet tall
and has been growing happily for 6 years producing lots of flowers in summer and looking lovely in winter with it's varigated leaves. However the severe weather that we had has turned all the leaves brown. Is it dead or do you think it will recover?
What should I do with it?

Nicky's right - just wait. The normal time to prune these is immediately after they've flowered, but in April or early May, take a good look at it - if you can see new growth and obviously dead areas, remove all dead parts and let the new growth carry on.

Its probably best to wait until we are well into spring to see if it regrows. I think most Ceonothus have been hit by the winter weather.
