Any suggestions for a climber to grow through a fairly robust leylandii hedge? Thanks.

That won't bother some climbers, but it may keep others from blooming. Also, if the climber is deciduous, it may leave bald patches in the hedge in winter.

Hi Jethro and welcome to GoY. The snag with growing anything through your leylandii hedge is that the hedge itself is going to have to be pruned every year. When you do this you are possibly going to cut the climber too.
