well last year was my first veg year and I grew carrots, beetroot, runner beans and parsnip. The easiest for me was beetroot, I had lots and I dont even eat them but great to give away to friends and family also runner beans need little attention and very little tending just pop in some canes. good luck and let me know what you plant.

Yes runner beans will work for Harris - don't do so well for us in the north of Scotland, but we try!
